World Cup live blog: Portugal vs. Ghana

While it's flooding in Recife ahead of the United States' World Cup match against Germany, the weather is perfect in Brasilia ahead of Portugal's match against Ghana, a game that could have serious repercussions for the U.S. as it attempts to advance to the next round.

Goal difference and scorelines aside, the U.S. controls its destiny: a win or a draw against Germany sees the U.S. through to the Round of 16. Should the U.S. lose though, things get more complicated, with scorelines and goal differentials coming into play as both Portugal and Ghana look to get the necesarry result to see their teams advance.

While Portugal recaptured a bit of momentum thanks to its last minute equalizer against the U.S. in the second game of the group stage, the Ghanaian team has fallen to internal strife. Sulley Muntari, already unavailable for the Portugal match due to yellow card accumulation, was sent home for squad disciplinary reasons. Similarly, Kevin Prince Boateng, who many expected to start and play a crucial role in the team's campaign, was also sent home for the rest of the World Cup for similar reasons.

In such an unpredictable World Cup, this match is up for grabs, as is the second spot in Group G.

Not sure what needs to happen Thursday for Team USA to advance to the knockout stage? Here's a complete breakdown of the scenarios:
