In the UFC world, it can be almost impossible to predict who will get the next shot at a world title. Rankings, legit and suspect both, seem to have little bearing on title shots, and pledges, either private or public often have less weight than the air they float through.
That said, UFC Fight Night 44 headliner Jeremy Stephens says that UFC officials have told him that should he beat fellow contender Cub Swanson on Saturday night, he'll be next in line for a shot at the featherweight title. “I’ve been told that [the winner gets a title shot], but nothing’s ever for sure,” Stephens told MMAJunkie.
“It’s all based on performance, but with this fight matchup, I don’t think performance is going to be much of a disappointment."
Indeed, you'd be hard-pressed to find a fight fan or analyst who anticipate that Stephens vs. Swanson will be a snoozer. Would you like to see the winner of this potential barn-burner get a title shot?
