Louisville QB Will Gardner will miss Saturday's game against Wake Forest.
Coach Bobby Petrino made the announcement after Thursday's practice. Gardner was listed as questionable with a left knee injury he suffered against Florida International.
"He has responded well to treatment," Petrino said Thursday. "He is doing a lot better, but he was not cleared from the medical staff.
Gardner was replaced in the FIU game by Brett Nelson, but backup QB Reggie Bonnafon will get the start against Wake Forest. Bonnafon missed the game against FIU after his father's death earlier in the week.
"Since the day [Bonnafon]'s got here, he's been very mature, been a quick learner," Petrino said. "He's very competitive, every time we've put him in the game he's executed well. He understands what we're trying to do. He adds a little bit of different flavor in the fact that he's very athletic and can run."
Bonnafon was a three-star recruit in the class of 2014. He played QB at Trinity High School in Louisville, the same school where former Louisville QBs Jeff and Brian Brohm played. He's completed 14-20 passes so far this season for 151 yards and a touchdown with six carries for 21 yards.
Gardnery is 63-112 passing this season for 798 yards, eight TDs and two interceptions.
