Facing top-ranked Florida State at home, N.C. State had a ton of success on offense early in the first half. Jacoby Brissett, the Wolfpack’s 6-foot-4, 231-pound quarterback, had a lot to do with that success.
Already leading 17-7, N.C. State faced a third-and-6 from the FSU 8-yard line when Brissett used his huge frame to elude two surefire sacks and hit wideout Johnathan Alston for a remarkable 8-yard touchdown.
The touchdown pass was the second of the day for Brissett, who hit Bo Hones for a 54-yard score on the Wolfpack’s second play from scrimmage less than a minute into the ballgame.
Since Brissett’s connection with Alston, the Florida State defense has managed to stiffen while Jameis Winston and the offense closed the gap to a 24-21 deficit at halftime.
Through two quarters, Brissett has thrown for 215 yards and two TDs compared to 210 yards and two TDs for Winston.
