There was a wonderful bit of fair play in the Bundesliga on Saturday when the referee showed Borussia Monchengladbach's Christoph Kramer a yellow card for what he thought was a foul on Paderborn's Stefan Kutschke. Kramer, who you might remember from the head injury he suffered in the World Cup final, couldn't believe he was booked and reacted with bemusement. But Kutschke stepped in and showed his exemplary sportsmanship by explaining to the referee that he just fell on his own and Kramer didn't touch him.
The ref then rescinded the yellow card and the match resumed with a dropped ball. Visiting Gladbach went on to win 2-1.
"There was no challenge," Kutschke later told reporters of the incident. "I slipped on the turf and I pointed that out to the referee. But then I saw that Christoph Kramer was shown a yellow card and I said — no, that wasn't a foul."
Arjen Robben does not understand any of this.
