Jets' Dee Milliner says he is the best cornerback in the NFL

When people argue about the best cornerback in the NFL, Dee Milliner's name rarely gets brought up. OK, it never gets brought up. The people having that debate might not bring up Milliner's name because they don't know it.

But Milliner, the second-year Jets' corner, brought himself up in the conversation.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Milliner proclaimed himself the best cornerback in the NFL.

“The best corner in the league? Me,” Milliner told the Daily News after practice on Saturday. “I ain’t gonna say that somebody else is better than me.”

Huh. That's ... interesting. The amount of people who think Milliner is the best cornerback in the NFL now totals one.

Look, there's nothing wrong with some confidence. A cornerback isn't going to make it in the NFL without a ton of moxie. And Milliner has plenty of it.

For those who need a quick bio on Milliner: He was the ninth pick of the 2013 draft out of Alabama and struggled as a rookie. He was benched on multiple occasions, but played well in December. The Jets have expressed confidence that the strong finish should carry over into his second season. They have not expressed confidence that a good final month to his rookie season makes him better than cornerbacks like Patrick Peterson and Richard Sherman. But he'll work as his own press agent on this one.

“I’m not going to say somebody that plays the same position is better than me,” Milliner told the Daily News. “Don’t care if they’ve been in the league 10 years and I’ve been here five months. That’s how it’s going to go. I’m the best. I’m not going to say that another man that plays the same position… and say he’s better than me? I can’t do that."

If Milliner doesn't have a big season season, it won't be because he didn't believe in himself.

Really, while the claim is far from realistic, there's nothing wrong with it. The league is more interesting because of players like Milliner, who don't feel the need to speak like robots at all time to drain the life out of the NFL.

And look at it this way: Those who didn't know Milliner before might know him now.
