Shaq Roland’s time at South Carolina has come to an end.
Head coach Steve Spurrier announced that the junior wide receiver is no longer with the team. GamecockCentral.com reported that Roland is “currently not expected to be back” for his senior season.
Roland did not practice with the team on Tuesday before its departure for the Duck Commander Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., which will be played against Miami on Dec. 27.
Roland was fourth on the team in receptions (26) and third on the team in receiving yards (356) and receiving touchdowns (4) this season. As a sophomore in 2013, Roland caught 25 passes for 455 yards and five scores. He also had five catches for 80 yards and a score as a freshman in 2012.
A native of Lexington, S.C., Roland was a four-star recruit in the 2012 class and was rated as the No. 66 overall prospect in the country. Additionally, Roland was named Mr. Football in South Carolina that year.
