Congratulations, Tyler Thigpen, you get to be a Cleveland Browns QB

A Cleveland Browns season that began with glimmerings of hope that sparked into a bonfire has now dwindled to embers, and the man tasked with poking at the the last of the dying glow could be ... Tyler Thigpen.

Yes, the end result of the Great Hoyer-Manziel Debate is that both guys are pretty much useless at the moment, and so the Browns have brought back Thigpen, a member of the team during preseason, to serve as a potential quarterback. Also in the mix: Connor Shaw, the rookie QB who has spent the entire year on the Browns' practice squad.

Both Cleveland starting QBs were ineffective toward the end of the year, but more importantly, both have suffered significant injury. Manziel is out for the year with a hamstring injury he sustained during Sunday's game against Carolina. Hoyer is battling a shoulder injury that likewise could keep him sidelined.

Thigpen has played for the Chiefs, Dolphins, and Bills, but has not taken a regular-season snap since 2012. He and/or Shaw will be facing a highly motivated Baltimore squad, which needs a victory to have any hope of a playoff berth.

This week marks the end of a dramatic comedown for the Browns, who spent much of the year very much alive in the AFC playoff hunt. But unexpected losses, poor efforts, and a general "Cleveland gonna Cleveland" mentality settled over the team, which now goes from having two potential franchise QBs to zero.
