Jason Witten chases down Patrick Peterson, avoiding FG block disaster

Jason Witten helped the Dallas Cowboys avert disaster — with a tackle.

Arizona Cardinals special teams stud Patrick Peterson scooped up the third blocked field goal of teammate Justin Bethel's career and sprinted down the left sideline with nothing but daylight in front of him.

Yet, the 32-year-old Witten somehow chased down Peterson, one of the game's premiere return men, making a touchdown-saving tackle and preventing further damage in the final seconds before the half.

Despite the absence of Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo, the Cowboys took an early 10-0 lead to start the battle between two of the NFC's top teams, but the Cardinals answered with 14 straight points on a pair of Carson Palmer touchdown passes.

Dallas kicker Dan Bailey's 35-yard field goal attempt with three seconds left before the break looked as though it would stop the bleeding, but Bethel had other ideas. Bailey showed some hustle after the block, though, slowing down Peterson just enough to allow a hard-charging Witten to make the tackle.
