Arizona Cardinals now 7-1 after huge road win at Dallas

(AP) Sure, the Dallas Cowboys were hamstrung at quarterback on Sunday, with Tony Romo out with a back injury. But don't totally discount the Arizona Cardinals' victory just because of that.

No matter who played or didn't for the Cowboys, the Cardinals had yet another impressive win that could mean a lot when the playoff picture is settled.

Arizona won 28-17. They fell behind early, on a pick-six by the Cowboys' defense, and controlled the game from there. The Cardinals are now 7-1, off to their best start since 1974, and reaffirmed that they are a legitimate contender in the NFC. They've beaten both of the top teams in the NFC East. They have a nice lead in the NFC West. It's possible we're looking at one of the top two teams in the NFC, which would mean Arizona gets a bye to open the playoffs. Nobody predicted that before the season.

Dallas getting almost nothing on offense as quarterback Brandon Weeden constantly misfired obviously helped Arizona. But it was still a balanced, solid effort by the Cardinals. Carson Palmer continued his best season in many years, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns. The defense did it s job against a Cowboys team that, quarterback issues aside, still has a lot of dangerous playmakers on offense. The Cowboys didn't score an offensive touchdown until Dez Bryant (who was mostly invisible on Sunday) scored a meaningless one in the final two minutes.

Maybe the Cardinals caught some good fortune to get the Cowboys the week Romo was out. But their record is impossible to ignore at this point. They're one of the NFL's best teams.
