Michael Vick becomes first quarterback to rush for more than 6,000 yards

Braley) Say what you will about Michael Vick, and people say plenty, but you cannot doubt the man has wheels. He's been the NFL's career rushing leader among quarterbacks for three years now, ever since passing Randall Cunningham in 2011.

On Sunday, Vick passed another milestone: he's now the first quarterback ever to rush for 6,000 yards in a career.

Vick now ranks 83rd on the NFL career rushing list, between Calvin Hill and Cedric Benson, and ought to crack the top 75 by the end of the season, assuming he continues starting for the Jets.

It's a testament to the sheer game-changing power that Vick once brought to the NFL, and also a reminder of one of football's great what-ifs. What if Vick never got himself imprisoned for his involvement in a dog-fighting ring? Would his skills have remained as sharp, would he have continued on the upward trajectory he'd shown during his first few seasons in Atlanta? We'll never know, of course, but the fact that he remains relevant on the ground after more than a decade in the league is indication enough that we missed out on seeing all that a generational talent could have offered.

Cam Newton has the best chance to catch Vick among active quarterbacks. After just three-plus seasons, Newton is already at 2,289 yards coming into Sunday's game, a total good enough to place him 20th all-time between Mark Brunell and Roger Staubach.
