Welcome to our Dr. Saturday feature titled "Random offseason tweet of the day." With real games still months away, coaches and players will be tweeting about non-football-related things as the season approaches. In this space, we'll try to find the funniest and goofiest tweets of the day. If you see something, don't hesitate to send it to us.
Despite only winning two games in his first season at Kentucky, Mark Stoops has quietly been bringing in some quality recruits as he hopes to rebuild the Wildcats program. One of those prized recruits was four-star junior college defensive end Za’Darius Smith.
Smith committed to the Wildcats in December 2012, a month after Stoops’ hire. He chose Kentucky over offers from Florida State, Miami, Missouri, Texas, and Texas A&M, among others. Despite the Wildcats’ struggles last season, Smith thrived in his first season at the FBS level, registering 61 tackles, seven sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss.
He considered declaring for the NFL Draft, but decided to return for his senior season.
I’ll bet he’s glad now.
On Tuesday, the Kentucky athletic department surprised Smith by giving him a glimpse of the new UK football billboard he is featured on. His reaction was awesome.
Smith and his Wildcats teammates will return to the field for the team’s season opener at home against UT Martin on August 30.
