Peggy and Doug Zant have been long-time Florida football season ticketholders, so the Gators program wanted to do something special to honor the couple’s dedication.
With the season rapidly approaching, the Zant’s have been expecting their Gators season tickets to arrive in the mail soon. The tickets arrived at the couple’s home in Gainesville Friday, but a special visitor – head coach Will Muschamp – arrived with them.
Peggy’s reaction when she answered the door was fantastic.
With an assist from Allyson Zant, the couple’s daughter, the Florida University Athletic Association arranged for Muschamp to make the quick trip over the Zant home, which is just “minutes from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium,” according to GatorZone.com.
After bringing the tickets, Muschamp spent about 10 minutes chatting with the Zants, who have had season tickets since 1968 and have been boosters since they moved to Gainesville in 1971.
They’ll be back in The Swamp for their 47th consecutive season when the Gators open up against Idaho on August 30. It’s safe to say, the Zants have their gameday rituals down to a science.
“We start off early in the morning getting ready for the game,” Peggy said. “We want to be prepared. We go over a couple hours before the game. We sit through the entire game. Win or lose we sit there until the end. Sometimes we are the last ones in our row.”
Muschamp, entering his fourth season at Florida, expressed his gratitude.
“We appreciate you guys so much. We appreciate your loyalty to the University of Florida,” Muschamp said.
