A surprise was waiting for the Northern Illinois Huskies following a team meeting on Friday.
Less than two weeks after unveiling multiple new uniform combinations for the 2014 season, the program decided to add an all-white combination to the mix.
The new white uniforms with black numbers and letters with red trim will be worn when the Huskies take a trip east to square off with in-state rival Northwestern at Ryan Field next Saturday, September 6.
Two white helmets were also revealed along with the jerseys – one with the Husky logo and one with the “NIU” decal.
The players had great reactions as they turned the corner into the locker room to see the new jerseys, bringing to mind the awesome black uniform reveal for Ohio from 2011.
The Huskies’ season opened up Thursday with a dominant 55-3 win over Presbyterian, where the team wore uniforms with a corn pattern. They’ll have a few extra days to prepare for the Wildcats, who open up at home against Cal on Saturday afternoon.
