Twins Triple-A team completes the oddest no-hitter you'll see this season

Are you ready to learn about the oddest no-hitter of this baseball season?

The Rochester Red Wings, the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, completed a no-hitter Monday against the Durham Bulls that was started in a different month, in a different state, by a pitcher who is now in the big leagues.

The no-hitter started on July 24 in Rochester, where weather caused the game to be suspended until Monday in Durham. That's 18 days and 634 miles that separated the start of the game from its finish. And still no hits for the Bulls. Crash Davis would be disappointed.

Trevor May, who made his MLB debut for the Twins on Saturday night, started the game in July for Rochester, throwing three no-hit innings. Logan Darnell resumed the game for the Red Wings, throwing six more no-hit innings.

We've heard of combined no-hitters before, but cross-state combined no-hitters are a different matter altogether. Since the Bulls weren't traveling back to the New York, the two teams had to finish the game in Durham, thus making things even more odd. The Bulls were "visitors" in their own stadium.

When the 3-0 victory was sealed for the Red Wings, Darnell shared the news with May. From the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle:

The first person Logan Darnell texted after Monday night's no-hitter was Trevor May, the former Red Wings pitcher now with the Minnesota Twins.

"After all," Darnell said, "he was part of this, too. It's kind of sad that he's not here."

May was thrilled.

"Boom! That's awesome!" he texted back from Houston.

As weird this one was, it was still a no-hitter and that's still something pitchers should celebrate.
