It's not a slight to the rest of his baseball skills, that if you asked most people to list off Giancarlo Stanton's top five traits as a ballplayer their lists would go something like this:
1. Hits baseballs really far. 2. Hits baseball really hard. 3 Hits baseball really hard and really far. 4. Hits balls over fence. 5. Hits ball over fence very much.
All apply to Stanton's performance Monday night in the Miami Marlins' 6-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. He hit two more homers, giving him 31 for the season, tops in the NL. The second homer was absolutely demolished, a 470-foot blast, according to Hit Tracker Online, that landed on the concourse in left-center field.
It gives Stanton three of the 10 longest homers of the 2014 season and five homers this season longer than 460 feet. No other player in MLB has two.
But The Stew might not have been writing this post if Stanton had just made a baseball travel 470 feet again while having another multi-homer game. We're writing this post because in addition to those two facts, Stanton also reminded us that he can do this:
