Popeyes to sponsor the Bahamas Bowl

When you think of the Bahamas, do you think of fried chicken?

Tuesday, Popeyes announced it was sponsoring the Bahamas Bowl. No, this is not The Onion. Popeye's is the Louisiana Kitchen. And when you think of Louisiana, you think of the Bahamas, so this is a perfect fit.

“Popeyes has always been the best way to enjoy a college football game, so the opportunity to bring together Popeyes and college football in a tropical paradise like the Bahamas was an opportunity we did not want to miss,” Popeye's VP of Marketing Hector Munoz said in a statement.

Is fried chicken really the best college football food? We understand that Munoz is paid to endorse his company's product, but is it even on the top 10 list of best game foods?

Popeyes is also going to need to do some serious expansion as part of this sponsorship. There are no locations in the Bahamas. If there aren't any locations built in the Bahamas in time for the game on December 24, any courtesy chicken will have to be flown in from Miami.

(We are going to guess that Popeyes will be serving grilled chicken at the pregame meals for the MAC and Conference-USA teams participating in the game. The gastrointestinal stress caused by two teams playing a game while powered by fried foods could evacuate the islands.)

No word if Popeyes paid to sponsor the bowl in chicken. Bitcoin, the new sponsor of the St. Petersburg Bowl, paid for its sponsorship in Bitcoin.
