Jets' Milliner suffers apparent high-ankle sprain; interest in Asante Samuel?

A year ago, Dee Milliner was the whipping boy for New York Jets fans. Now his potential loss has them all freaked out.

Milliner might be out of service for a bit, and his availability for the remainder of the preseason suddenly is in question.

Dimitri Patterson, who was the rather uninspiring consolation prize for the Jets after failing to sign a big-name cornerback in the offseason, struggled in Thursday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. He has been slowed by calf and ankle injuries.

Plus, adding injury to insult, third-round pick Dexter McDougle, who was expected to lock down a top-four corner spot, suffered a torn ACL and will be done for the season.

So, um, Kyle Wilson, this is your life?

The Jets have even have kicked around the idea of signing free agent Asante Samuel.

That said, talented young corners typically are not looking for work this time of year, so the Jets might have to wait until cutdown time at the end of the month for a shot at landing a legitimate contributor.
