Brendan Ryan hits ball twice with one swing, gets a single (Video)

It wasn't quite as cool as Hunter Pence's three-hit swing in the 2012 NLCS, but New York Yankees infielder Brendan Ryan got a strange single Thursday after hitting a baseball twice with one swing in the Yankees' 1-0 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Hitting a baseball twice in one swing, as you can imagine, gives the ball some interesting spin and it scooted through the infield past Tigers shortstop Andrew Romine and third baseman Nick Castellanos.

Someone in the Yankees clubhouse ought to give Ryan the nickname "Twice as Nice." In Tuesday's game against the Tigers, he made a lovely play at second base in which he caught the ball twice. He jumped to catch the ball and it popped out of his glove. He landed, then reached with his bare hand and grabbed it again.

Well played both times, sir. Now we're left to wonder what "Twice as Nice" Brendan Ryan will do for his next trick.

Maybe steal bases on one pitch?
