San Antonio officials think they still have a decent shot of landing Raiders

(AP) The idea of "San Antonio Raiders" came and went pretty quickly. The story that Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis had a meeting with San Antonio officials was very interesting in August, and not much has happened since then.

However, San Antonio will continue its push on Friday. City officials don't think the possibility of landing the Raiders is dead.

The San Antonio Express-News said former mayor Henry Cisneros will lead a group that will meet with the Raiders in the Bay Area on Friday. The Raiders are hoping to get a new stadium in Oakland, but that hasn't happened yet.

The Express-News story contains some new details, such as the Raiders finding San Antonio's Alamodome an NFL-ready facility after two team officials took in a University of Texas-San Antonio game there. Cisneros is quoted in the story saying the chances of the Raiders coming to San Antonio is a “very clear 50-50 proposition.”

Cynically, you'd assume Cisneros would pump up San Antonio's chances when making such a proclamation, so it could be that "50-50" is actually much less than that. But the trip to the Bay Area shows that San Antonio is still serious. And depending on what happens in Oakland, the Raiders might have to consider all options. The NFL hasn't had a team in Los Angeles since 1994 because it doesn't really want a team in L.A., or it would have happened already. Maybe that attitude will change if the Raiders need a home, or Oakland will come through, or some other solution will materialize.

But for now, San Antonio wants to keep itself in the mix. Just in case.
