Ryan Mallett ready if and when Texans call on him, deleted tweet indicates

The Houston Texans fell to 4-5 with a loss Sunday to the Philadelphia Eagles, and Texans fans cranked up their irritation at the idea that they might be a quarterback away from being in contention.

Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't the only reason the Texans lost — he had nothing to do with defending the Eagles' backup quarterback, Mark Sanchez — he also hasn't played great.

Fitzpatrick was 13-of-27 passing for 203 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the home loss, and the chatter about a quarterback change has risen.

The man who might replace him, backup Ryan Mallett, who was acquired from the New England Patriots at the end of the preseason, took to Twitter to remind Texans fans (and coaches?) of his readiness and willingness to get on the field, per the Houston Chronicle.

"I'm staying focused for when the time comes…seize the opportunity #justwaiting," Mallett tweeted.

Before, of course, he deleted said tweet.

Our suggested hashtag: #weaksauce.

That said, it can't be too long before Mallett gets a chance. The Texans surely want to take a look at him before the end of the season, when Mallett becomes a free agent. There is no clear and obvious solution to the team's quarterback problems currently on the roster, with Mallett (a former third-rounder who was traded for a conditional draft pick in 2016 and who has four regular-season pass attempts in his NFL career) and fifth-round rookie Tom Savage, who was fairly "meh" in his preseason action.

We don't mind the Texans giving Mallett a crack at some point. And we likewise don't mind Mallett showing some confidence. But, dude, stick to your guns on it.
