Ohio State's Dontre Wilson out for 'a few weeks' with broken foot

Nov 8, 2014; East Lansing, MI, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes running back Dontre Wilson (2) is tackled by Michigan State Spartans safety RJ Williamson (26) during the 2nd half of a game at Spartan Stadium. (Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports) Ohio State’s Dontre Wilson caught his third touchdown of the season Saturday night at Michigan State and he did so with a broken foot.

Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer confirmed on Monday that the sophomore H-back would miss time due to the injury, which occurred at an unknown point during the 49-37 win at Spartan Stadium. He underwent surgery on Sunday, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

“He’s out for a few weeks,” Meyer said. “I don’t know the extent. They may have to put a pin in it.”

Though he caught two passes for 23 yards and a score, Wilson had an overall rough game against the Spartans. He fumbled twice on kickoff returns, one of which was recovered by MSU. He also dropped what should have been a long touchdown pass in the second half.

For the season, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Wilson has 21 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also ran the ball 18 times for 100 yards. On returns, Wilson has averaged 24 yards and 9.7 yards per attempt on kickoffs and punts respectively.

With Wilson out, Meyer said Noah Brown, Corey Smith and Nick Vannett are all candidates to fill the void.

Now 8-1 and 5-0 in conference play this season, the Buckeyes will travel to face 7-2 (4-1 Big Ten) Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.
