NFLPA says NFL not living up to its word in Adrian Peterson case

The NFLPA's job is to battle for its members. They are striking hard at the NFL over Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's issue.

The union said that the NFL made an agreement when Peterson was put on the exempt/commissioner's permission list, presumably regarding his reinstatement off that list once his legal situation was resolved. Peterson was accused of injuring his 4-year-old son while disciplining him with a switch. He plead no contest in that case last week. He was sentenced to probation, 80 hours of community service and a $4,000 fine as part of the plea agreement. And now he wants to play.

The NFLPA filed a expedited grievance on Peterson's behalf, and claimed that the NFL hasn't lived up to its agreement when he was put on the exempt list. Here is the NFLPA's statement:

"The NFLPA has filed an expedited, non-injury grievance to remove Adrian Peterson from the Commissioner’s Exempt list based on explicit language in a signed agreement dated September 18, 2014. We asked the NFL to honor the terms of that agreement last week and as of now, they have failed to respond or comply. It is our obligation to protect all players’ rights, and we will pursue any and all breaches of any contract between a player and his team or the NFL."

The NFL could still decide for additional punishment for Peterson, who has missed eight games. Also, the Vikings will have to decide if they want Peterson back if he is allowed to play. But when Peterson was not reinstated by Monday evening, the NFLPA decided to officially push the matter. If the NFL, which has said it is reviewing Peterson's case under the personal-conduct policy, wanted to push the matter down the road as long as it can, it appears the union will do what it can to speed up the process.
