A normal scheduled-to-the-brim NBA Wednesday night will include its fair share of highlights, from game-deciding shots to fantastic dunks. But it's quite rare for one of these plays to fall into both categories. A highlight tends to be an either-or proposition, a game-winner or a wow-look-at-that wonder.
Credit the Toronto Raptors, then, for giving us both in one crucial last-minute sequence to help decide Wednesday's game at the Boston Celtics. With the score tied 105-105 and 38 seconds on the clock, Boston held the ball with a chance to take the lead. But Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry picked rookie Marcus Smart to give his team a transition opportunity. DeRozan ended up finishing it off, drawing a foul from Kelly Olynyk in the process:
DeRozan hit the freebie and the Raptors went on to win 110-107, with Lowry hitting a jumper in the final 10 seconds. He was the star of the night, scoring 35 points (12-of-17 FG, 9-of-10 FT) and adding four rebounds, three assist, and two steals. Rajon Rondo led the Celtics with a triple-double (13 points, 15 assists, 10 rebounds).
