Goalless Rene Bourque placed on waivers by Canadiens

Inconsistency, thy name is Rene Bourque.

The 32-year old Montreal Canadiens forward is goalless on the season through 13 games, and on Sunday Bourque was placed on waivers, according to TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie.

Since January 22, Bourque has all of two regular season goals. In the postseason, his consistency really shone. He scored three times against Tampa Bay in the opening round, went pointless in the final six games against Boston in Round 2, and then recorded six points, including a Game 5 hat trick, in the Eastern Conference Final against the New York Rangers.

Jiri Sekac, a 22-year old rookie from the Czech Republic, has emerged as a better option for head coach Michel Therrien after sitting in the press box for seven games. Bourque was scratched last Tuesday against Buffalo in favor of Sekac.

Bourque has another year left on his deal worth $2.5 million in salary, carrying a $3.33 million cap hit, according to CapGeek. He will likely head to Hamilton of the AHL if he clears, unless some NHL team out there desperate for forward depth feels a change of scenery would do him some good -- also known as The Devin Setoguchi.
