Dover police investigating allegation of domestic assault against Kurt Busch

The Dover, Del., Police Department issued a statement Friday that said Kurt Busch is under investigation for an allegation of domestic assault.


"The Dover Police Department can confirm that an investigation is being conducted based on an allegation of domestic assault that is alleged to have occurred in the City of Dover involving Mr. Busch," the statement said. "These allegations were brought to the Dover Police Department on Wednesday, November 5th at 2:00PM. At this time, the department is still investigating the victim’s claims and will not have any further comment on this matter in order to preserve the integrity of the case. The Dover Police Department will release further information as it becomes available. We appreciate the public’s and media’s patience in this matter and are confident that the department is taking the proper investigative steps to ensure the case is resolved appropriately."


According to the AP, the claim of assault is against Patricia Driscoll. Busch and Driscoll began dating in 2011. The Sprint Cup Series raced in Dover on Sunday, September 28.


Stewart-Haas Racing, Busch's team, said it's gathering facts.



NASCAR also issued a statement.



Busch was eliminated from the Chase after the Dover race. After finishing eighth at Texas last week, he's 14th in the Sprint Cup Series standings.


The Cup Series races at Phoenix on Sunday. In 2005, Busch was suspended for the final two races of the year while at Roush Racing following a driving incident while leaving the track. Busch was ultimately cited for reckless driving. Busch, the 2004 Cup champion, was set to leave Roush at the end of the season and join Team Penske for 2006.
