Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer went down awkwardly early in the fourth quarter against the St. Louis Rams, suffering a left knee injury of unknown severity.
Palmer was being pressured by Rams safety Mark Barron and fell to the ground after it appeared his leg buckled. Palmer suffered a torn ACL and MCL on his left knee back in 2005 with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Cardinals announced the injury on Twitter.
Palmer — after limping off the field with assistance — was taken to the locker room on a medical cart.
Palmer, 34, was rewarded on Friday with a three-year contract extension for a reported $50 million for the team with the NFL's best record at 7-1 entering Sunday.
After Palmer left the game, the Cardinals missed a 53-yard field goal and trailed the Rams 14-10.
But Palmer's replacement, Drew Stanton, came in on the next series and hit rookie receiver John Brown for a 48-yard touchdown to take the lead.
