Yankees ball boy pulls a switcheroo, pockets Derek Jeter foul ball

(Getty Images) We don't need to tell you that memorabilia from Derek Jeter's final season is a hot commodity. Merchandise sales are crazy — up something like 1,000% as the world prepares to say goodbye to the New York Yankees captain.

But if you want a real-life illustration of how people are clinging to any bit of Jeter memorabilia they can get their hands on, consider this: The Yankees ball boy had a plan in place to pocket a Jeter foul ball when given the chance. And he pulled it off.

Here's Jeter's third at-bat of the night, a fifth-inning trip to the plate that ended in a strikeout. But not before this wonderful moment.

The ball boy grabbed the foul ball, pulled another ball out of his pocket, handed that to a fan in the crowd and presumably kept the Jeter ball for himself. (Or, you have to wonder, if the Yankees instructed their staff to keep every little thing possible).

The kid didn't conceal his effort too well, but heck, this is Derek Jeter's final game at Yankee Stadium, you do what you have to do to grab that history.

Yo, ball boy, we got one word for you: RE2PECT.
