Vikings DT Linval Joseph hit in calf by bullet during nightclub shooting

Among the victims of a shooting at a downtown Minneapolis nightclub was Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph, although Joseph suffered just a minor injury to his calf.

Multiple people were injured when a lone shooter opened fire at about 1:50 a.m. Saturday morning. Two people suffered serious injuries but were in stable condition, the CBS affiliate in Minneapolis said.

A stray bullet hit Joseph in the calf. The Vikings' statement on Saturday said he was an innocent bystander.

"He was immediately taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injury and released," the team's statement said. He is expected to return to his coaches and teammates this week. The entire Vikings organization is extremely thankful that Linval was not seriously hurt, and our thoughts are with all of the victims of this shooting."

Joseph was one of the Vikings' major free-agent additions this offseason. He signed a five-year, $31.5 million contract. The 25-year-old 323-pound lineman spent his first four seasons with the New York Giants.

Joseph made his preseason debut for the Vikings in Friday night's 10-6 win over the Raiders, just a few hours before the shooting. The shooter is not yet in custody, the CBS affiliate in Minneapolis said.
