Titans D-lineman Casey rewarded with four-year extension, $36M

Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey emerged last season as one of the league's most underrated defenders. He's perhaps underrated no longer.

Casey and the Titans signed a four-year, $36 million contract extension, with $20.5 million of it guaranteed. Last season was Casey's NFL breakout year with 10.5 sacks and 55 tackles in 14 starts.

Here's a picture of Casey signing the deal with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and his mother. Smiles all around.

"We are excited to come to an agreement on an extension with Jurrell," Titans GM Ruston Webster said in a statement. "This is something Jurrell has earned not only with his play on the field but his work ethic as well. We appreciate Jurrell's professionalism through this process and look forward to many good years to come."

Casey's role will change in new coordinator Ray Horton's defense, so it will be interesting to see if his effectiveness as a pass rusher will change. In last season's 4-3 scheme, Casey was a defensive tackle, but now he's switching to a 3-4 end spot, although Horton's defense is an aggressive scheme that relies on pressuring the quarterback — often via the blitz.

Casey totaled 5.5 sacks in his first two seasons combined after being a third-round pick of the Titans in 2011. He was a third-round selection that year.
