Team USA takes #IceBucketChallenge, calls out President Obama, Commissioner Adam Silver, Oprah (Video)

You are awake and on the Internet, which means you're probably aware of the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral video-based campaign aimed at raising both awareness of and money for research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis , often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease. The process is simple: break out a camera, have someone pour a bucket of ice water over your head, and then ask a few people to do the same thing within the next 24 hours or to donate money to the ALS Association.

The videos have spread far and wide throughout seemingly every community, and they appear to be working — the association said it had added "more than 70,000 new donors" between July 29 and Aug. 12, and "received $5.5 million" between July 29 and Aug. 14, "compared to $32,000 in the same period last year," according to TIME.

In Chicago on Friday, it came time for the members of the U.S. men's national basketball team to accept the challenge during a break in their training for the upcoming 2014 FIBA World Cup.

When Stephen Curry — and James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Kenneth Faried and DeMarcus Cousins — prepared to face the dreaded cold water, they decided to set their sights pretty high when it came to passing the challenge on to the next group:

(Check out Kyrie Irving, fully dressed and not getting drenched. C'mon, Uncle Drew, where's your team spirit?)

"Team USA #alsicebucketchallenge... We all were challenged by somebody so we did it together," Curry wrote in his Instagram post. "We nominate Barack Obama, Adam Silver, and Chicago's own @Oprah."

I'm guessing Steph's out of luck on POTUS, who declined the challenge but reportedly did donate to the ALSA. And Oprah ... well, I'm sorry to tell you this, Steph, but Tyler Perry got there first. Silver, though? I feel like there's a really, really good chance that we'll see the commish get soaked before too long. (Cue up those "Sexy Silver" chants.)

If you would like to donate to the ALS Association, you can do so here. If you would like to watch more NBA-related people take the Ice Bucket Challenge, you can do so below.
