Les Miles counters Gary Andersen and will wait to name a starting QB too

Gary Andersen, Les Miles is going to play your game.

After the Wisconsin coach said he wasn't going to name a starter until before the season-opener against LSU on August 30, Miles countered Tuesday and said he's going to wait to name a starter too.

LSU's quarterback battle is between Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris and the decision likely won't be made public until before the game.

“We’ll tell the starter probably that Thursday [Aug. 28] when we put together the final list of starters, Miles said after a team scrimmage on Tuesday (via WWLTV.com).

Miles likes to be shifty and crafty, so it could be a simple smokescreen. But he said there was no separation between the two players."Both quarterbacks threw the ball well," Miles said via TigerBait.com. "There has been no separation of one from the other. Both provided a high level of execution. The opportunity is there to see both play vs. Wisconsin. We still have several practices this week and a full game week. We can wait to name a starter."

Monday, Andersen said that people will know when Wisconsin runs on the field in Houston to play against the Tigers whether Joel Stave or Tanner McEvoy is his starting quarterback.

Stave started all 13 games last year, but for LSU, only Jennings has starting experience. He replaced Zach Mettenberger when Mettenberger was hurt against Arkansas and played in the Outback Bowl against Iowa. Harris graduated high school in December and joined the team in January.

Maybe each team will come out in a single-wing formation with a running back under shotgun for the first offensive play of the game. That would really throw each other off and bring some hilarity to this situation.

If one or both coaches is simply playing coy to avoid the other team gameplanning for a specific player, is it really much of an advantage? Given the strengths and offensive systems of both teams, stopping each team's dangerous running backs is going to be the priority for both defenses. It probably doesn't change if a starting quarterback is known before the game.
