In any other summer, Boston Celtic big man Kelly Olynyk trudging up the court with a piece of an advertisement billboard still stuck to his leg would be a lights-out laff riot. We are, however, in the summer of Paul George, who suffered a devastating leg injury after nailing a too-close basketball stanchion during a Team USA scrimmage last week, knocking him out of action for 12-to-18 months.
Olynyk was playing for Team Canada in a scrimmage against Serbia in Italy earlier this week, when an errant pass led to this:
(You’re going to want to turn down your speakers. Not that the music isn’t safe for work, but because it’s loud and pointless and sounds directly lifted from one of those ‘Emmanuelle’ films from 35 years ago.)
Olynyk is fine, and the ads aren’t that domineering, but it’s still unfortunate that we can’t find safer ways to guard these players around the basket. If anything, the last week has proven that we’re extremely lucky these sorts of things more often, be it in the NBA or any number of international tournaments.
Sorry for being such a downer. Enjoy your summer.
