Buccaneers to work out guard Richie Incognito, report says

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers desperately need help at guard, and there's a former Pro Bowl guard who has been out of work all offseason.

So, it looks like it might be time for the NFL to forgive and forget with Richie Incognito.

The Buccaneers will bring Incognito in for a visit and sign him if it goes well, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported. Incognito had to be wondering if he would be frozen out of the NFL for good.

Incognito was the face of the Dolphins' bullying scandal against fellow offensive lineman Jonathan Martin last year. He exhibited some strange behavior after that ordeal, including bashing his own Ferrari with a bat, He then reportedly went to a facility to cope with severe mental stress. He was a free agent this spring and summer and nobody signed him.

But he was an effective guard in an eight-year NFL career, making one Pro Bowl. He's just 31, and as long as he has been staying in shape he's probably no worse than what the Buccaneers are suffering through at guard this preseason. Glazer points out the NFL hasn't cleared him to play, but says he doesn't think that will be an issue if someone decides to sign him.

One would assume that the Buccaneers wouldn't have to worry about Incognito being an issue in the locker room. After all of the negative publicity and nearly an entire offseason in exile, Incognito will likely be on his best behavior. Whether he is in shape and can help the Buccaneers on the field will likely be the biggest issue.

But the Buccaneers are reportedly taking a look. Incognito has to be thrilled for that chance alone.
