The four Kentucky players who were suspended for shooting BB guns on campus Sunday night have been formally charged in Fayette County (KY) District Court, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Quarterback Drew Barker, wide receiver Dorian Baker, defensive end Tymere Dubose and running back Stanley Williams, all freshmen, were charged Thursday morning with second-degree disorderly conduct after surveillance footage captured them during a campus alert of shots fired near a dorm complex. The charge is a class B misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 90 days in jail.
Court documents said the players had “up to four pellet or BB guns,” one of which they discarded. The players told police they were playing “man hunt” on UK’s campus Sunday night. The reports of shots fired were issued around 10 p.m. Sunday. Police searched the area, but no suspects were found. Per the Herald-Leader, an airsoft gun was recovered in the area where shots were reported. Later on, surveillance was reviewed and showed “someone discarding the gun.”
The players are due in court on October 28.
Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops suspended the players for Saturday’s game against South Carolina for a violation of team rules.
“Proper conduct is emphasized as a core value of our program,” Stoops said in a release. “If we have a situation in which someone who does not act according to our standards, we hold him accountable.”
While Dubose and Barker have not played for the Wildcats this season, Williams leads the team in all-purpose yards. Through four games, he has 101 rushing yards, 105 return yards and 75 receiving yards on five receptions. Baker had 11 catches for 122 yards and one score.
Coming off their first SEC win since November 2011, the 3-1 Wildcats host South Carolina at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
