Utah QB Travis Wilson received final medical clearance to continue his football career on Wednesday.
In February, Wilson was cleared for non-contact drills, but he still needed to be cleared for contact. According to Utah, a June 20 CT scan revealed the injury to an intracranial artery that was discovered after a concussion in November had remained stable since the last test in February.
"I'm happy I've been cleared to play again," Wilson said in a Utah statement. "My condition is stable and the neurosurgeon predicted it will remain stable in the future. I had a feeling nothing would change from the previous scan, so I've been working to get back into shape. I feel totally comfortable about returning to football and full contact. I believe I've been playing with this condition for awhile and never even knew about it. I'm going to keep playing just the way I've always played. I knew something positive would come out of the whole thing."
After the concussion in November, Wilson's career was in doubt and he sat out the rest of the season. He had suffered the injury on Nov. 9 against Arizona State, but didn't experience any symptoms until a headache the next day. The neurological condition was discovered during concussion testing.
As a sophomore in 2013, Wilson was 133-237 passing for 1,827 yards, 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. The school says he'll enter preseason camp as the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart. He'll be battling with former Oklahoma QB Kendal Thompson, who transferred to Utah after the 2013 season and Adam Schulz, who replaced Wilson after his injury.
