Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt won't face further punishment after throwing a punch against Villanova

Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt will not receive further discipline from the ACC after throwing a punch during Friday night’s 27-26 double overtime win against Villanova.

Hunt was running a draw play when Villanova linebacker Joey Harmon met him. Harmon drove Hunt backward and into linebacker Dillon Lucas, who made helmet-to-helmet contact. Luces brushed his hand across Hunt’s facemask, which prompted Hunt’s reaction to punch. Hunt received an automatic ejection.

An ACC spokesperson told Syracuse.com that the league office had reviewed the play and determined it didn’t warrant further punishment.

There also won’t be any team punishment as coach Scott Shafer actually excused Hunt’s behavior and chalked it up to a heat-of-the-moment reaction.

"It's an emotional game and if you've never played it, you don't know what it's like to get frickin' pummeled," Shafer said. "There are people on your back and people talking to you and you react. We've all done it."

Hunt should be available for Syracuse’s next game against Central Michigan on Sept. 13.
