Kliff Kingsbury says Texas Tech was 'embarrassed' after narrow win Saturday

Texas Tech's 42-35 win over Central Arkansas was not supposed to be close.

The Red Raiders were almost a five touchdown favorite before Saturday night's game. However, the game was nowhere near a blowout. Central Arkansas led 16-7 at one point in the first half and Texas Tech's largest margin was 14 points.

It was not a scenario where Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury wanted to apply the "a win is a win" cliché.

"It was embarrassed, I'd say, after the game," Kingsbury said Tuesday when asked about what it was like after the game. "We'll meet with them today, but after the game, embarrassed."

Tech committed 15 penalties for 113 yards. Kingsbury also used the e-word when he was asked about fixing the penalties.

"We'll work on it this week," Kingsbury said. "Yeah, we'll have some more punishments and see where it goes. But that's just embarrassing to watch your team go out and do those things. As a coaching staff and head coach I have to get it right this week."

Tech also committed the game's only two turnovers. Both were interceptions by QB Davis Webb and came on back-to-back drives in the first and second quarters. The first was in the end zone and led to Central Arkansas' first score of the night and the second was returned all the way to the Tech 2-yard-line, where UCA opened up that 16-7 lead soon after.

"Yeah, just early on (Webb) just wanted to make every play," Kingsbury said. "He throws the one in the end zone on first down, and throws one coming out on first down that basically goes for a pick six. Just got to go through your reads and get the ball to the playmakers. He doesn't have to do it all with the group he has around him. (Webb) did a lot of nice things, lot of throws, lot of completions, but once again, a couple crucial errors that he's got to cut out of his game."
