Bowling Green starting quarterback Matt Johnson will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hip injury during last week’s loss to Western Kentucky.
Johnson played the entire 59-31 loss to the Hilltoppers and completed 25-of-36 passes for 313 yards and a touchdown.
Last season, Johnson was the biggest surprise in the Mid-American Conference as he threw for 3,467 yards and 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He led the Flacons to a MAC title and the Falcons were one of the favorites to repeat this season.
With Johnson out, new Falcons coach Dino Babers said the program would turn to redshirt sophomore James Knapke in the home opener against VMI this weekend.
