Jeff Bridges has played every type of role imaginable during his incredible career in Hollywood, but the one he'll always be most associated by this generation is his role as The Dude in the 1997 Coen brothers film The Big Lebowski. The Dude was simply a classic movie character that connected with a wide variety of movie-goers. And to this day, nearly 20 years later, it remains just as loved as it was then, because apparently it continues catching on with the generations that followed.
Perhaps the coolest thing about the character's popularity is that Bridges himself understands, acknowledges and even plays into it. From time to time he'll even channel The Dude and bring it back so fans can get one more laugh out of it.
Such was the case on Friday when Bridges was on hand at Dodger Stadium to throw out the game's ceremonial first pitch, ironically and fittingly to Dodgers reliever Brian Wilson.
Of course, Bridges was actually there to promote his new film, The Giver, which opens in theaters on Aug. 15, but he couldn't help but have a Dude moment when going through with his delivery. Rather than throwing the pitch to Dodgers reliever Brian Wilson, Bridges made the approach and rolled it like a bowling ball, which took many back to a famous scene from the movie.
And hey, it works, You can either throw a strike or roll a strike, and he definitely got it over the plate.
Bridges continued having some fun by announcing the Dodgers starting lineup. As some have suggested, maybe The Dude isn't a character after all. Bridges looks so comfortable in that role that and sometimes it's difficult to tell the difference. Not that it matters to us. We're just along for the wild ride.
