Take note, little kids of the world. While it's still very cool to get a foul ball at an MLB game, it's becoming even cooler to get a foul ball and give it to someone else. Especially if you're trying to get on TV. Cameras love that stuff.
Behold this 12-year-old name Ryan who was tossed a foul ball during Friday's Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Ryan immediately turns around and hands the girl to a little girl named Reese sitting behind him. The girl loved it. Her mom loved it even more. America loved it. We'd probably elect him president if he were old enough.
Ryan's selflessness got him noticed by Red Sox broadcasting duo Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo. They sent him two baseballs and a gift bag, which were delivered by an NESN reporter sent down to chat with Ryan. Two balls, a gift bag, screen time and the adoration of thousands? The kid came up.
We've seen the ballpark casanova act before, but our man Ryan seemed a little too earnest to be trying to woo the little girl. Maybe it's because he kind of looks like a young Landry from "Friday Night Lights," but Ryan struck The Stew as a nice kid doing the right thing. Fifteen years from now, he'll be buying a coffee for the person in line behind him. Bet on it.
In his NESN interview, Ryan said this about his foul ball gift:
"I've seen people do it before and I thought it's a nice thing. It's good to make people happy."
Maybe it's not just the kids of the world who should take note, but everyone. Being nice to other people is cool. We should do more of it. Way to go, kid.
