Rob Gronkowski was excited to be back and score a touchdown against Miami. You could tell from the oomph on the "Gronk spike" after he scored.
You know who was really, really excited Gronkowski was back? Tom Brady.
After Gronkowski caught a 6-yard toucdhown pass (a Gronk red zone touchdown? What a shock), Gronkowski turned back after his spike and saw his quarterback coming ot celebrate. Brady then knocked him in the head about a dozen times like a heavyweight fighter with his opponent on the ropes, screaming at him the entire time.
At least we think that was a celebration. Maybe Brady just realized Gronkowski owed him money.
Brady has every reason to be excited Gronkowski is back after an ugly ACL injury finished his season last year. The Patriots are a different team with Gronkowski, one of the most devastating tight ends in NFL history when he's healthy. For Gronk to be back and doing Gronk things like scoring and spiking in Week 1 is a great sign for the Patriots.
It's a great sign for Brady too, who might want to make sure he doesn't add a post-celebration concussion to Gronkowski's injury list.
