Top H.S. recruit Josh Sweat makes committment

Top defensive end Josh Sweat, the 6-foot-five, 240-pound senior from Chesapeake, Va., who started the year as the nation's top recruit, has kept college football fans guessing all season. Would he go to Florida State or Virgina Tech? Was a visit to Oregon last week enough to convince him to move across the country?

On Wednesday morning, he gave them their answer. Or, to be fair, his mom gave his answer. He's heading to FSU.

As of last week analysts said Sweat had narrowed the field of teams down to five, featuring Florida State, Oregon, Georgia, Virginia Tech and Ohio State.

Wednesday morning it looked like Sweat was going to follow the trend, picking the hat that matched his choice. Instead, he let his mom do the honor.

As soon as she showed off the sweatshirt, Sweat did a Tomahawk chop, then hugged his mom and shook his dad's hand.

Sweat came into his senior year at Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) High School as the top recruit in the country. His stock fell slightly after he dislocated his knee and tore his ACL early in the season, but he is still near the top of several polls. Rivals.com had him at No. 5 at the end of November but dropped him to No. 31 last week.

Sweat is the sixth player on the Class of 2015 Rivals 100 to verbally commit to play for Jimbo Fisher and the Seminoles next year. He'll be getting a jump start on his future teammates, as he plans to graduate from high school next month and enroll in spring classes at FSU.
