Titans RB Shonn Greene arrested after fleeing from handicapped parking ticket

This booking photo released by the Franklin, Tenn., Police Department shows Shonn Greene of the Tennessee Titans NFL football team. Greene was arrested Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, for allegedly parking in a handicapped space and speeding away when an officer was issuing him a citation. Franklin, Tennessee police Sgt. Charles Warner says Greene was charged with driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, failure to stop/halt/frisk and illegal parking. Greene was released on $2,000 bond. He is due in court Nov. 13. (AP Photo/Franklin, Tenn., Police Department) Not that illegally parking in a handicapped spot is smart, but Titans running back Shonn Greene proved you can make that violation a lot worse.

Greene was approached by a parking enforcement officer in Franklin, about 20 miles outside of Nashville, for illegally parking in a handicapped spot. He left the scene, according to the Tennessean. He maneuvered around the parking officer's vehicle and sped away. When he got caught in traffic later, he sped off from police again.

And that's how you turn a handicapped parking violation into an arrest on charges of handicap parking violation, driving on a revoked/suspended license, reckless driving and resisting stop/halt/frisk. The police worked with the Titans to have Greene turn himself in on Friday night, the Tennessean said. He posted a $2,000 bond and was released.

All told, it was a pretty unnecessary incident.

"The entire situation could have been avoided if he would have left that handicap space for who it was intended for,'" said Sgt. Charles Warner of the Franklin Police Department told the Tennessean. "The fact that he didn't and got caught being parked there, he could have stopped things from going any further than a parking ticket if he would have simply communicated with the parking enforcement officer and not taken such evasive measures to get away from her, increasing the seriousness of what would have been a simple parking ticket."

Greene began the season as the Titans' top running back, but has been sidelined the last two weeks with a hamstring injury. He is listed as probable on this week's injury report.
