You spend your whole high school career waiting for that moment that you can get out from under the thumb of your local principal. You escape and get yourself a great job, only to find you're still answering to your principal!
That was exactly the situation of Tampa Bay's Doug Martin on Sunday. Well, sort of. Peter Morelli, who refereed Martin's game against Carolina, also happens to be the principal of St. Mary's High School in Stockton, Calif. And that's the high school Martin attended. Martin embraced Morelli during the game, which surely raised a few eyebrows among fans not sure of their connection.
No word on whether Morelli slapped Martin with extra detention. But if Morelli throws flags on his misbehaving students, he's officially the best high school principal in the country. (We assume his students don't ask for booth reviews of his decisions.)
